Phillip Island & District Railway Modellers inc.

About Us

Following the successful 2004 Model railway Expo presented jointly by Phillip Island community & learning centre and the Phillip Island Masonic Lodge  a small group of local railway modellers expressed their interest in forming a local club where an exchange of ideas, experience, and problems could be discussed and/or resolved on a regular basis in a friendly atmosphere. Jack Sheppard and Stan Gittus got together and placed an advertisement in the Phillip Island Advertiser asking if interested parties would like to meet at Stan's house and see where to go from there.

On the 10th of November 2004 the Phillip Island & District Railway Modellers Inc. was formed ( Registration No A0046529X ) and since that time regular monthly meetings were held at members’ homes up until the end of 2009. In November 2009 the Club was offered a space to build a permanent club layout at the Phillip Island Senior Citizens Club rooms.  Work commenced on this project after our 2010 Annual Exhibition and our DCC controlled HO/OO layout was born. In March 2017 we relocated into a larger room in the Senior Citizens complex, the original layout was dismantled a new layout planned and construction started on the current  7.9m x 4.7m layout.

The club established annual Phillip Island Model Railway Show held each January has been presented by the club for the enjoyment of visiting holiday makers, serious train buffs, and of course the ever-present children. The club presently has members from Phillip Island, Wonthaggi, Bass, San Remo, Kilcunda, and holiday homeowners from metropolitan Melbourne.

Our Club aims to provide our members with a regular meeting place to discuss and advance our hobby and assist each other to improve our modelling skills and enjoy the fellowship and company of others with a like interest.

Railway modelling encompasses a diverse range of skills and most of our members have in house or garden layouts which we regularly visit to keep abreast of what is going on and help where needed with individual knowledge. Our annual Model Railway Show is a busy time for all our members in preparing new layouts and managing the needs of the many clubs that join us for this popular event.

We are however a small group; we therefore welcome any interested person to join us in our miniature world.

Our Clubrooms are open every Sunday for members to run their trains or help with  construction projects, prospective new members are invited to join us.
